Discovery: Hello Alone

Hello Alone

I actually don't remember how I discovered these guys, but however I did I was extremely lucky. Hello Alone is still a rather unknown band, but they are amazing! The band also puts out new acoustic cover videos ever couple of weeks, so make sure to check out their youtube channel.

Favorite Song: Right now they only have their one four song EP out and I can't pick a favorite one out of that. All four of their songs are great.

Location: Orillia, Canada

Band Members:
Vick May - Vocals
Tyler Whitworth - Lead Guitar
Thomas May - Drums
Mark Brazier - Rythnm Guitar, Back Up Vocals

Albums:
Lost At Sea-EP (4 Songs)

Short But Sweet: U.N.S.I.N.

U.N.S.I.N.

I discovered this band long after they had called it quits, but the one short EP they released is well worth listening to. I'm sad to see that this band didn't last they made great music, and they have such an interesting name.

UNSIN is an acronym for the United Nations Substance Identification Number, and the name of their first and only EP is 0145 which is the identification number for a highly explosive substance similar to TNT. They were hoping that their band would explode and become very popular. As I already said they did not but they should have.

Location: Athens, Greece

Band Members:
Christina Nikolaidou - Vocals
Obviously their were other band members but Christina is the only one I was able to find a name for.

Albums:
0154-EP (4 Songs)

Appearances - The Material

Music is such a huge part of my life and has created so much of who I am today. I want to take at least one day a week to share with y'all some of those songs that has inspired me. Today that song is Appearances song by the amazing band The Material, whom I will do a post on shortly.

Appearances
The Material

I am and have always been a bit of a loner, most of the time that's because I just enjoy being alone. However, sometimes when I'm out in a social environment whether it be at work, with friends, or even with my family, I feel like "I'm living my own lie". I often feel like there is just so much about me that most people don't know just because I internalize things so much.

That is why I feel so connected to this song. I have felt like "I'm suffocating silently in front of a crowd", and that I'm "hiding more than I let on."

PVRIS

PVRIS
NOTE: Pronounced as Paris. They had to change their name for legal reasons.

I found Pvris rather early on in my search for independent bands. I discovered them and Love, Robot at the same time when I stumbled onto a blog that had the above video embedded in it. Both bands are awesome and I'll be doing a post on Love, Robot soon.

Pvris just updated their website a couple of days ago so make sure to check it out, it looks awesome! I'm hoping that a new album will be announced soon, but I haven't heard any news yet. Though Lynn has done some collaborations with a couple of other artists, A Loss For Words and Under Fire.

Favorite Song: Mind over Matter from Paris. I just absolutely love the lyrics to this song. I struggled with OCD as a child and had to learn to overcome my OCD. I have since tried to live by the slogan mind over matter, and I feel a strong connection to this song because of that.

Location: Lowell, Massachusetts

Band Members:
Lynn Gunn - Guitar/Vocals
Alex Babinski - Guitar
Brian MacDonald - Bass
Brad Griffin - Drums

Albums:
Paris-EP (6 Songs)
Gemini-Single (Only available on bandcamp)

Crystalyne

Crystalyne

My Discovery: It only seems appropriate for me to kick off my website about independent bands by posting about the first independent band I discovered. I'm not really sure just how I found them, but they were somehow recommended to me by iTunes, and since then I discovered them I have been on a long and never ending search for all the awesome independent bands out there!

What I like about Crystalyne: I think that Marissa has a truly amazing voice, so much better than any female singer with a standard record label. I like Crystalyne because they have created an amazing blend of pop and rock. I also really enjoy the lyrics each song actually sounds different. (I have found that most music produced by standard record labels all sounds the same.)

Favorite Song: Deceiver from Navigate

Location: Toronto, Canada

Band Members:
Marissa - Vocals
Justin - Bass
Josh - Guitar
Scott - Drums

Albums:
Navigate-EP (6 Songs)
Secret-Single
Crystalyne is also working on getting funding for their next EP: Remedy. If you like them I hope you'll support their project. I'll have a link below, the minimum pledge is CA$7 and will get you the digital download of the EP once it comes out.
